Final Polishing Suspensions
Excellent Surface Finish FOR YOUR NEEDS
Final Polishing Suspensions and Powders
Final Polishing
Final polishing products are designed to remove the final layer of surface deformation and prepare your sample for analysis. Deformities may not be visible to the naked eye, but must be removed for some specimen analysis techniques.
Application Specific Solutions
The material type dictates which final polishing powder or suspension is ideal. Choose from Buehler’s large portfolio of alumina and silica products that meet your fine polishing needs.Final Polishing Suspensions
Buehler oxide suspensions are intended to be applied directly to polishing cloths with no mixing. No additions of extenders are required.
MasterPrep® Alumina
MasterPrep is capable of producing optically scratch-free surface finish on ferrous metals, copper alloys, low-melting point alloys, polymers and minerals.
Pair MasterPrep with soft, napped cloth such as MicroCloth® polishing cloth for the best performance.
MasterMet® Colloidal Silica
Colloidal silica of 0.06µm nominal abrasive size in a basic (pH ~ 10.5) suspension, MasterMet provides a combination of mechanical and chemical polishing.
This type of suspension is essential for fine polishing materials that form stable, passive films. These materials include aluminum alloys, refractory metals, silicon and ceramic.
Pair MasterMet is ChemoMet® for the best performance except when manually polishing in which case MicroCloth® is most suitable.
MasterMet® 2 Colloidal Silica
Similar to MasterMet, pair MasterMet 2 with ChemoMet® for the best performance except when manually polishing in which case MicroCloth® is most suitable.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is Final Polishing important?
A high quality polish will make the specimen surface smooth and shiny through mechanical and/or chemo-mechanical abrasion, while retaining the true microstructure and flatness.
What is the difference in mechanism of action between MasterPrep® and MasterMet® 2?
MasterPrep Alumina contains seeded gel alumina, which provides efficient material removal combined with superior surface finish via a purely mechanical, abrasive process. MasterMet 2, on the other hand, contains colloidal silica, which has a soft reaction layer to chemically attack the specimen surface. The spherical shape of the colloidal silica enables it to wipe away the top surface layer without scratches.
