Metallography & Materials Science Achievements

The ASM Metallographic Award for best paper is given each year. The articles in a full volume of the IMS journal Materials Characterization are judged by a group of 15 people selected form the IMS Technical and Publications Committees, Buehler, and the Editorial Advisory Board of the journal. A commemorative plaque and a $1,000 cash award, sponsored by Buehler are presented to the author(s) of the paper appearing in the most recent volume(s) of the journal and are judged best in dealing with the practice of the metallographic arts at the IMS annual Convention.

Buehler Technical Paper of Merit Award

The IMS Buehler Technical Paper of Merit Award is given each year. The articles in the previous year’s volumes of the IMS journal Metallography, Microstructure, and Analysis (MMA) are judged by the IMS Buehler Technical Paper of Merit Award Committee. The IMS Board, Buehler, and the MMA Editorial Advisory Board each have at least one representative on the Committee. The Buehler Committee member shall serve as Chair. A commemorative plaque and a $1,000 cash award, endowed by Buehler are presented at the IMS Annual Convention to the primary author of the paper judged best in dealing with the practice of the metallographic arts.
