### Mounting Consumables

Between hot and cold mounting options, Buehler has the solution you are looking for to achieve a uniform shape for your samples to deliver on consistency, edge retention, and sample flatness.

#### Hot (Compression) Mounting Compounds

![Hot Compression Mounting Compounds](https://www.buehler.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/Hot-Compression-Mounting-Image.png)

Hot mounting compounds utilize heat and pressure to encapsulate a specimen and turn them into a flat and uniform mount with your sample inside. Buehler's compression mounting compounds minimize shrinkage while protecting and preserving sample edges during the preparation process, and are here to meet your easier and faster sample preparation needs.

### About Mounting Consumables

Compression (Hot) Mounting is the preferred method for processing a high volume of samples that are not susceptible to heat or pressure. Compression mounting uses a mounting press such as our SimpliMet 4000 to apply heat and pressure to encapsulate the sample in a mounting compound, and provides cost savings for a high volume lab in the long run.

Casting (Cold) Mounting is recommended for mounting specimens that are sensitive to heat and/or pressure. The term “castable mounting” refers to mounting samples in either an epoxy or acrylic resin.

#### Cast Media: Epoxy or Acrylic?

Epoxy Mounting Systems provide great clarity and the highest quality with cure times of one hour or longer. Epoxy media is preferred when you need excellent infiltration and minimal shrinkage gaps. Acrylic Mounting Systems provide cure times as little as 5 minutes and easy mixing ratios with moderate quality. Acrylic media is preferred when you need a fast cure time and easy to mix ratios.Visit our [Epoxy](https://www.buehler.com/assets/Brochures/English/Mounting/Epoxy_Mounting_Guide_Web.pdf) and [Acrylic](https://www.buehler.com/assets/Brochures/English/Mounting/Acrylic_Mounting_Guide_Web.pdf) Mounting Guides to learn more ![Acrylic vs Epoxy](https://www.buehler.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/12/Acrylic-v-Epoxy-1024x192.png) Recommended for mounting specimens that are sensitive to heat and/or pressure.
